Straub Brewery in St. Marys, PA has been a longtime pillar of the community. In 2019, we met with the owners of Straub Beer, who wanted to transform a Straub Family home into the taproom we all know and love. But let’s first take a look at how this all happened!
The brewery itself dates all the way back to 1868, with Peter Straub fully taking over in 1878. It was originally named “Benzinger Spring Brewery” after the spring that runs beneath the brewery. In 1913 when Peter Straub passed, three of his sons took over owning and operating the brewery. It was then that they renamed it “Straub Brewery”! You can read more details of the story of Straub on their website!
A residential house was originally built in 1917 by 2nd generation Straub family member and former Straub Brewery President, Anthony “Tony” Straub. This house was built right next to the brewery itself. Years passed, and the Straub family decided to transform the residential house into a visitor center and a tap room.

KTH Architects connected with the Straub Brewery, Inc team to design the visitor center and taproom. We oversaw the construction of the property, and in June of 2019, the Visitor Center & Tap Room was officially unveiled!
This taproom has now become a staple of St. Marys, PA featuring a 12 tap draft system, all kinds of Straub Beer to go, a full tasty food menu, an outside beer garden area, and a gift shop with their favorite products. Take a trip to the Straub’s Taproom and catch a big game, have some good eats with your family, or enjoy some great live music!
