Project Description

KTH Architects was contracted to design a two-story addition to the side of the existing single-story fire station, while simultaneously gutting and renovating the existing living quarters. The Fire Station Chief, Public Safety representatives, and Facility Management team partnered with KTH from concept to construction. Their insight and trust shaped a sustainable space that supports the first responders who provide these essential services.

A first for the station was the construction of a dedicated women's bathroom and bunk room.
The second story addition had to fit inside the profile of the fire station's existing pitched roof rather than building up and expanding the footprint.
Station crews lived 24-7 in a temporary trailer on-site. It wasn’t possible to schedule construction during off-hours or the weekend since the fire department operates around the clock. This provided a new perspective on building renovation while tenant occupied.
